I do not have the Keep GPS ON feature turned on.
Say I choose a 2" tracking interval.
Say I start tracking and then close the app.
My phone (Samsung Galaxy Rugby Pro) shows the GPS signal continuously.
I'm afraid that tracking (even if the interval is set to 2" will drain the battery.
Shouldn't the GPS turn on every 2 minute only?
Hi,
What version do you currently have? have you tried updating the application?
Thanks,
Dan
Upgraded to 4.9.3, will try again and report back, thanks.
How can extract statistics? if i want to upload exp In FaceBook
Hi,
You can share the data to everytrail.com and share that to facebook. Otherwise, we currently only have the option to share the GPX/KML data
Thanks,
Dan
Hi,
When I record a track, it often switches off by itself, which is really frustrating. Even in the pro version it does this. Any ideas why? My phone is a Huawei Ascend Y550 if that helps...
Cheers
Jon
Hi Jon,
When you say switches off, does your device turns itself off or restarts?
Or does it kill the application altogether?
Do you have some sort of battery saver app in your device?
Thanks,
Dan
Hey Dan,
I've checked that and now set it for Backcountry Nav as a protected app so that it keeps running when the screen turns off.
I also have the Keep GPS On option selected in Backcountry Nav.
Since changing this though, the same issue still occurrs. When I use it and set a track recording, after a while, maybe one or two hours it will stop recording. Last time when I stopped, I could see on the map that there was no track for the last few km that I had travelled, but the 'record track' menu still seemed to think it was recording, as I had the option to pause or stop track recording...
Hi Jon,
When did you last update the app? What version are you using now?
If you can, Please send us a log again after you record.
thanks,
Dan
I have version 5.8.0, here is also the most recent log.
Thanks
Jon

Hi Jon,
I will forward this to our devs for them to check.
Thank you for your feedback.
Dan
Hi,
Can you please check Google Play for an update - there should be a new update available, then try rebooting - please advise if this helps.
thanks,
Dan
Hi,
I'm wondering if I can change the rate at which the track recording pings the gps. If I set it to ping often, it will probably be more accurate but drain more battery? Can I set it to ping the satellite only once every ten minutes or even once an hour to save battery life on a multi-day trip?
Thanks!
Eric
Hi,
I'm wondering if I can change the rate at which the record-track function checks in with the satellite? I would think that pinging the satellite more often would improve accuracy of a recorded track but require more battery? Can I set it to only ping the satellite every 10 minutes or even every hour to save battery on a multiday hike?
Thanks!
Eric
You can change the rate in Track Options.
At the moment, pinging every ten minutes is not a practical way of saving battery, but we are making improvements.
On a long hike, one of the best ways to save battery is to keep the screen off as much as possible, and use airplane mode.
Hi Dan,
Been having some trouble since I switched to Nexus 5x (Nougat 7.1.2).
1. Start "Record a Track".
2. All works well, coloured line shows as I ride along.
3. After about an hour or more, all the recorded lines disappear. Only left with direction arrow. But settings still show its recording.
4. Upon finishing ride, I end record. The entire trail shows in Tracks. Its all there.
Q1. Need you help me fix recorded line missing. Its dangerous as we ride in deep into forest, so need to track back or at least know our loop takes us back to base.
Thanks,
Peter
Hi Peter,
Do you have power savings settings enabled?
