Place Name Labels

I recently did a kayak trip near Acadia NP in Maine.

The software functioned great but I could not find a map source that had good place names for all of the Islands I could see in the distance.

Additionally when the place names were there, they were hard to zoom in on to make the readable. 

At certain levels of zoom the few island names woiuld disappear.

Is there a setting or different map version that has better labels?
