Auto-Save Track Data

    Dave,

I also have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4. A couple times, when driving with Navigation using Google Maps I suddenly lost my navigation and I got a message that my phone was not reading my SIM Card. After restarting the phone the problem went away. This has happened about three times over the last year or so. Twice I was unable to recover with out reseating the SIM card in the phone. You might want to try removing and reinstalling the card. The contacts can become corroded to a slight degree that causes it to loose connectivity. This may be your problem with the phone. Try inserting and taking it out about three or four times to ensure you have good contact. Inserting the SIM against the contacts scratches them together to create a good connection. Doing it several times makes sure there is no corrosion between. If the SIM looses the connection for a single cycle it may automatically force a restart with out sending an error message to the display.

I like your idea about an auto save function for tracking, especially if your remote and in unfamiliar territory. The function could save a person from a very harrowing and dangerous experience.

    Bruce,

Thanks, I'll try what you suggested. Your suggestion seems apt as I was already convinced that something to do with the SD card was the root of the problem.

Galaxy S5, similar issues from time to time with SIM and SD card.  I use a piece of a paper post-it note on the back of the sim.  Has fixed sim issue for about 12 months.

Unrelated to the sim/sd card, bcn stops tracking and loses the apparently saved track from time to time.  Ticket 20516.

If bcn could reliably backup or save the track at regular intervals, it would minimise the losses that i experience.  Of course the extra load on the system due to the extra saving will probably make the failures more likely!

I really like logging my trips with Backcountry pro, however there's a large flaw that made it to where I don't use this anymore and can't recommend it. if you are logging a long trip and your phone dies at the end of low battery before you hit "stop track", it will delete the ENTIRE trip. it almost got me in trouble when I was trying to follow my old track in a new area. for that reason I switched to Gaia but I still like the interface here better. please fix
