Virtual Earth image server support
Not plannedI would love to see the option to use Virtual Earth as an aerial tile source without having to go through the MOBAC process. AFAIK the server is free, my primary PC GIS software (Manifold) includes it among a number of "open" map servers (such as Google Earth, Mapnik, and Yahoo) that are available for linking. That software does cache VE views in a temporary folder to save data between sessions, so I would think that means the VE tiles would work much the same as the currently available BCN sources. In my line of work it can be very useful to compare different aerials to see changes due to photos being taken at different times of year or even over a period of years. I'm no programmer and would prefer not to have to try my hand at Java with MOBAC. Is this possible under BCN's current architecture?

Possible, but not legal. The server is not free. Google Earth and Yahoo aren't either.
I can't speak for what any other applications do. This is what Microsoft told me directly:
"Unfortunately, we are unable to license the Bing Maps Platform in way that would allow you to cache any of the map data."
