Cross Screen Pointer.
Originally from ticket #3474.
i often use the GPS to try identify peaks and mountain names. it would be
awesome to have a full-screen cross pointer showing the direction you are
looking at, even if your current location is outside of the visible map
possible?
thanks

I'm putting this as a feature request. Could you please draw or attach a picture of what you mean?

Originally from ticket #15241.
It would be helpful to be able to initiate a line direct from the pointer(similar to the GOTO) to enable recognition on the map of a feature that can be seen but whose position is difficult to ascertain. One would point the phone at the feature and then look along the line;this is traditional method of resection in paper navigation!
-----
Firstly what I want.On the map screen if we have a 'goto' there is a purple line from the centre of the current position out to the waypoint. If you then go to the compass screen, in addition to the readout in purple of the bearing 'goto' to the waypoint, there is, in green, a readout of the current heading;by rotating the heading to make green and purple readings coincident gives the direction to 'march' used by me frequently by night. Now let us go back to the map screen.there is a purple line from centre of position to the waypoint; What i want is for there to be a green line from the centre of the position along the heading;by making green and purple coincident thats the way to go.I am aware that currently there is a pointer at the position marker for this latter purpose.
Now why I want it.Let us go back to the days without gps when map compass ,ruler and pencil were all that was available. On getting to a known position, one would orientate the map to north and then look around for visible features or landmarks;sometimes they would be obvious and their location on the map could easily be obtained.Often however one would have to take a bearing on the feature and after correction for mag variation draw a line from the current position along that bearing and then by careful inspection along the line, the feature could be found on the map.
Now when one is using bcn, there is often a need to identify on the map screen a feature observed that is either of interest or navigation importance;what one has to do currently is rotate the phone so the heading is pointing to that feature, then look down to try to imagine a line from the current position and inspect along that imaginary line to try to decide where the feature is on the screen.;this is difficult, particularly if the scale has to be altered;hence I would like a green line on the map screen which allows me more easily to inspect along it.
