Index map?
The new BN interface is great for browsing maps.
But I still have problems figuring out what tiles are downloaded and what zooms they provide. I have some downloaded topo tiles that show a 1:250,000 overview and some that don't and I'm trying to figure out which and why. I also have problems figuring out where to draw rectangles to download tiles, as there is no information about where you are when you are drawing.
The USGS used to have printed state indexes to topo maps with a very basic sketch map, and you can seem something similar online at
http://www.yellowmaps.com/usgs/state-index-maps/topo-PA.htm
or
http://www.uwgb.edu/dutchs/UsefulData/Pa-NJ24kIndex.HTM
How about having some sort of a very simple sketch map index available as an option, with at least state boundaries and major cities, so you can find the right area to rectangle-and-download?
Thanks for listening.

It is already somewhat possible to do this by using Open StreetMaps as a preview layer.
Perhaps the MyTopo map could be replaced with this more basic map as you zoom out past a certain point.

That would be perfect, and would I think make BCN much easier to use.
On a related topic, I have some downloaded MyTopo (I think) tiles that show 1:250,00 maps at Zoom 10. But there is a big chunk at one side where at Zoom 10-12, there is nothing except for a graphics of a box with an arrow leaping out of it, although there is a view at Zooms 14015. There is also an area where there is nothing lower than Zoom 14. Whether I try to browse this using MyTopo as a source, try to download tiles for this area and use them, or even use the Clear function, I still can't see this lower zoom levels in these areas. Sounds like I need to clear out some of the data and reload.
What's the best way to do this using a file manager, that is, without trashing BCN?
Thanks very much.
