zooming in without changing maps
CompletedI used BCN fairly extensively last week at the Grand Canyon. One thing that happened to me several times is this: I would be looking at the map, and would want to zoom in to make out a word that was printed on the screen in a very tiny font. I would try to zoom in, but then the screen would automatically change to a different map level and the word would not exist on the new map level. It was frustrating, and I would sometimes end up having to hold my phone very close to my eye while squinting at the screen to make out the tiny font.
The solution: have a way for the user to zoom in while holding the current map level constant. Maybe a toggle button on the main screen, like the GPS toggle button.
(My apologies if there is already such a way that I just wasn't able to figure out. If so, please let me know how to do it.)

I can't change the fonts on the map- some were chosen before I was born. So this is the next best thing. If you pinch and zoom you just might get a glance before lifting your fingers. 0 -
Thanks for the reply. I wasn't talking about changing the fonts, though--just about making it so I can opt to not switch the actual map as I zoom in. (I'm using the mytopo.com maps.)
Agreed that careful pinch & zoom is a stop-gap remedy.
P.S. In addition to being able to read the tiny text, this issue also came up a couple of times with roads. On some map levels roads are very easy to see. On other map levels roads are very difficult to see. There were a couple of times where I wanted to zoom in a little but not have the road suddenly become quite hard to follow.

Just for safety purposes, I should make the disclaimer that all roads on USGS maps are likely outdated and possibly fictional. Doesn't mean they are not useful to see, of course.

I too have been wishing for this very same feature. 0 -
And me as well. 0 -
Badly needed feature. The screen on my phone is very high resolution, resulting in a very small pixel size, while that results in very good detail, at the same time it creates this issue. You need to come up with some solution to this, because as the resolution of the droid screens get greater, the issue becomes greater, as the actual overall size things are shown at becomes smaller

For this feature, try Map Maginification in settings.

This is a 'permanent' setting. It would be most useful if you could use this option 'on the fly'

Definitely. Rivers, creeks, roads, all are difficult to read at many map levels. 0
