Freezes in Motorola Droid Razr Maxx HD

  • Nathan

If you enable developer options and choose Bug Report as soon as you are up again.

    Send the report to

There is no guarantee it will have incriminating information, but it might.

Note: On Android 4.2 and newer, Developer options is hidden by default. To make it available, go to Settings > About phone and tap Build number seven times. Return to the previous screen to find Developer options.

What make and model is your SD Card? I don't have one yet for the Razr HD and I might want to match.

Hello Nathan, thanks for all of your hard work so far on this issue.

I am having the freezing problem on my Droid Razr HD Maxx as well.  Using USA Topo Maps - ArcGIS as my source, "main tile cache" map package, stored on the internal device storage.  The freezing almost always occurs when scrolling through maps (only once on the stats page while recording a route).  The app is usually pretty well-behaved after a reboot and endures many minutes of scrolling and zooming; but after the phone has been on for a couple of days, I can crash the app pretty quickly.

Let me know if there's anything I can do to help the cause.  Thanks.

I have a RAZR HD, and have experienced the freeze problem, but it appears to be solved by the upgrade to 5.0.6.  The difference in the screen write behavior is like night and day, and no freezes, so far..  I've been using Accuterra single layer, both in Main Tile Cache and as a downloaded Map Package.  Will report the first freeze.   I don't know if I commented earlier, but after the latest Android upgrade to 9.18.79 and the latest Gogle Maps, I experienced the identical freeze running Google Maps!

A question for all with freezing problems:

Curious to the amount of people that have Adobe Flash Player to the amount that have a freezing problem.

Does your phone freeze frequently / un-frequently in normal use?

Mine was freezing more and more often (just giving black screen and had to do hard reset - just like BCNAV). Started doing it once a week and then multiple times a day.

After going into safe mode I found the phone did not do it anymore; making me realize it was an app problem and not the phone itself.

I uninstalled Adobe Flash Player since I remembered it giving me a warning when I installed it.

Adobe Flash player is not updated anymore or available for most Android phones - I downloaded an older version in hopes to watch certain videos that only play via Adobe FP. (Not those kind! LOL)

Phone has not froze in a few days now, but I have not been on BCNAV lately to test the freezing problem (just thought about it).

I'll want you to try it on BCNav before I'd say much.

The Flash Player does not appear to be bundled on the device, although there are thousands of other apps that are bundled, and I don't know what they all do.

I do NOT have Adobe Flash Player installed on my DROID RAZR MAXX HD, and it freezes very infrequently. maybe once in 15 to 20 uses of BCN.  In an earlier post I mentioned that when it froze, all of the waypoints disappeared from the screen.  Android 4.1.2, BCN 5.0.6.

Thanks for your efforts on this Nathan.

Here are some recent suggestions by users. I cannot confirm them as I cannot reproduce the issue on our Razr HD.

Another is Accessibility Settings in the phone:

One setting is called Long Click Delay. Some evidence suggests it might help to set this to something other than "Short"

Another setting is Enhance Web Accessibility. Some evidence suggests it might help to not have this enabled.

Direct quote from customer: "The droid needs to be shut off occasionally in order to function. " Not sure that is helpful, but may be true.

Please report back if any of these settings make any difference at all.

I have a Panasonic toughpad JT-B1 7 inch tablet running android 4.04. Although I enjoy the app greatly, I am also having the freeze problem while scrolling the maps. In most cases I have to hold power button down for 15 seconds to get it to reboot. I have used the app while navigating (in a car) the last two days with no problems. It just seems to be a scrolling problem. I removed/reinstalled the app and the problem seemed to go away, but now it is back, sadly. Panasonic refuses to update the android version for "stability" purposes. So, I may be stuck. Just my experiences. Thank you.

Has this issue been solved?  My LG Lucid locks up regularly while I'm scrolling and/or zooming.  I use OpenCyclcMap.  I thought it was just my phone, but I just installed on a Galaxy S4 and it locked up as soon as I started scrolling around - this required removing the battery. This is a huge issue and needs to be solved.
