It just started working today. I'd been working on it for a few days and it looks like it must have been a USGS problem..

It is likely there was a problem at USGS since at least one other person had a problem. They've happened before bu they are usually momentary.

I'm having a similar problem.  I have a droid X2, I cannot download any map set I try to use.  I've tried it several times over the past 4 days  and reinstalled once, but have not been able to get any maps.  GPS data access for stand alone apps is enabled.  Suggests?

USGS does seem slow, but I haven't seen problems in the others. How's your storage card? How's your internet connection?

Storage card is good (14.7gb left) and my internet connection is as quick as it normally is. I've been working with it over the last few days and sometimes USGS is quick and sometimes it takes a while to load. I'd have to say though that more often than not its quick. But I still have no idea why it wouldn't work for the first three days.

Storage is at 1.72GB on the SD chip,  13.41MB on phone's internal memory.  I have no problem with other apps using the local 3G network or 2 different wireless networks at work and home.

If it is the USGS Color Aerials, it is probably server side. If I report to the USGS, they usually get back to me in two weeks, but the problem goes away in a day.

What do you see on the screen? A grid? Arrows? white? black?

I am not having trouble with the other maps. If you are, it might be worth it to send in a log.

I am having trouble downloading (or seeing) maps from both Color Aerials and MapQuest OpenAerials.  OpenAerials works fine at 14, but will not go any closer.  14 is not close enough.  Color Aerials wil download some tiles but others just show up a big green blank with the circle-x icon.

Problem appears to be at the USGS server today.

OpenAerial and both USGS sources aren't working now. Open Aerial works at a 14 or thereabouts zoom level, but after that, only alternating tiles are downloading. Is this temporary? I'm headed on a trip tomorrow and would love to have some source for aerial images.

You need to get an update before your trip. I have changed the urls for the USGS sources this week.

Although I am entirely sure what is happening with MapQuest, they get data from the same sources. It seems they may have made a decision not to host the deeper layers to cut costs. I'm seeing little camera icons in place of tiles they used to have.
