(MIGRATION ONLY APPLY FOR EXISTING USER ON ANDROID 11 AND HIGHER)
Please note: There are some guides attached to this page to give additional help.
In some cases, it is faster to fix up some things manually
To reset migration if it didn't prompt on first instance, go to Menu > Settings > Storage Options - Reset Migration
STEP 1: Press “CONTINUE” button.
STEP 2 : Press “MIGRATE” button. (This will take you to Android File Browser)
STEP 3 : Find “bcnav” folder on internal storage.
STEP 4 : Select “bcnav” folder and Press “USE THIS FOLDER” . (Note! “USE THIS FOLDER” word could be different from other Android version).
STEP 5 : Press “ALLOW” button to grant us permission to access the bcnav folder for migration.
After the permission granted migration will start on BCNPro app. There will be two parts in migration the first part will be on Dialogbox and other part will start on background (Notification) once the first part is done. A notification will appear once the migration completed.
NOTE! Please do not kill the app or remove it from the recent apps.

Iʻm still here trying to follow your poorly written instructions and the file I'm supposed to transfer the bcnav folder into isn't even there. I am literally holding the phone in my hand with the app open plugged into the computer and the data isn't shown. What the hell?
This really sucks. I like your app, but this process really tempts me to find a different one. It's incredibly frustrating and enraging that you can't get your trip together and make this easy for your paying customers. I use this app for firefighting and you make it so hard.
7 months later and I'm back here again and this poorly written and incomplete “guide.”
Where are the step-by-step instructions from beginning to end in how to migrate from one phone to another phone?
I somehow managed to figure it out seven months ago, but it was seven months ago! And every year or two before that! I paid for this app, why can't you provide a decent guide to how to migrate to a new phone?
On top of that, why can't it just migrate automatically like EVERY OTHER APP DOES? My pictures and videos migrate. My calendar migrates. Why do I have to go through some convoluted process of transferring files from phone to PC to phone again? This is so dumb! It's 2024! Get it together! Everything else migrates. Your app doesn't migrate.
Hi Buck,
Glad you did.
But I think as long as the file folder/storage is migrated to the new folder, it should ideally work.
thanks,
dan
Dan,
I have been using BCN since its introduction in 2010. I tried out Gaia when it was introduced at the low intro price of $30 something per year. As the price increases each year I am wondering what I am getting for my money. I am sure the price is going to be higher next year and the year after that. For that reason I will probably not renew, but what's the alternative? I really hope you can find a good business model for the Backcountry Navigator Pro to be able to keep it updated with new OS's. I believe if you where to update the app on a regular basis and charge a minimal fee for the updates you would find a ready market for individuals not wanting to pay annually increasing memberships. I like the fact that I can retrieve ALL of my tracks and waypoints, which I have collected and refined over the years by just transferring one folder file from my phone. I have backups of my tracks and routes going back to 2010. When I cancel a subscription service how do I easily get all of my data back and then transfer it? Make the app fully functional for all phones, eliminate the migration issues. Bring back the auto route function. Add a PC based program to interface with app. If users know that you plan to keep updating the app and that it's functional on new phones I am sure you will have many new users going forward. I have been giving positive feedback about BCN on platforms like Facebook but it's hard if the app doesn't work properly on new phones. I hope you consider keeping the app up to date. I think there is a good market for an app without annual subscriptions. I would be sad for this great app to fade away. Jim
@Buck Terrell
I don't have another device and don't know anyone else who has this app. Kind of frustrating that the app is not updating this folder.
when I connect my phone to the PC I can see the folder. there are a few files in the folder. I disconnected the phone and went back to the app and maps still not showing up.
Sammy You would need to find an BCN file out of another device that has it and shows the inner folder to copy and paste into yours. Dan I tried every every file manager app I could find. File manager apps would work on my S22 ultra, s23 ultra and other devices I have helped. The S24ultra was 1st device that it wouldn't work with many months ago( some of these app may have fixed that issue overtime or maybe a phone update). Since I have found this trick I can setup someone's device faster than using a file manager. Many of my friends will bring me their tablet or phone to setup BCN that I ride with and this method is a time saver and the only way I've got s24 ultra or newer to work. I haven't tried in a couple months to see if any of of the file managers will work now.( I was tempted on a friends fold 6,but didn't try.
Hi @Sammy & @Buck -
What file manager are you using?
Can you try using this - Files - Apps on Google Play (we are not affiliated with them but a lot of users found success in navigating to the folder with this app?
Can you take a look at these 2 guides as well - https://filebin.net/25ie52h29gw8t08y
Lastly, can you confirm full storage permission's granted to the app?
Thank you,
Dan
So what is the solution? How can I find this BCNAV folder?
That was same as me when I 1st downloaded back country navigator I could see inside the bcn folder. It wasn't until I deleted s24 bcn folder & pasted from note 9 bcn folder into my s24ultra could i see inside that folder.
This doesn't work for me. I can't see any of my maps. I can't even see the BCNAV folder on my phone.
Thank you, Buck.
With your permission, can we use this video if the need arises?
Thank you,
Dan

I made a youtube video of how I did it. Hope it helps and fills in any gray areas.
I'm not finding the bcnav folder anywhere. I have searched everything in my files.
I figured out a work around for my S24ultra. I took my note 9( my backup off road gps) BCN file and made sure I had everything I wanted. Copied it to my pc then copied it to my s24 as a main file in the s24 storage. Reset Migration to that file and now I have access to all my maps. Moving forward I can now copy and paste into that folder on the pc. Hopefully new maps will be okay added like this. Not sure about way points and tracks. Hopefully everything forward is easy but worst case ill repeat for new maps as needed.
The migration tool in BC NAV Pro doesn't see a ‘bcnav’ folder in my Internal Storage. I'm on Android 14. Where are the BCN files stored?
Hi Solomon,
Apologies as this was very old (updating the migration reset part on the article).
We have to go through this because Google/Android updates how apps can access Data on every new iteration of the OS, It's something we need to do for the app to be able to access your device's storage.
To reset migration if it didn't prompt on first instance, go to Menu > Settings > Storage Options - Reset Migration
Thank you.
Dan
Why is this so useless?
This “guide” doesn't even tell you how to get to the screen it starts with.
God forbid anybody ever get a new phone, because transferring all your data will be convoluted and unexplainable.
Why do I have to go through this every time I get a new phone?
Hi @MyPrivateGeek
We are still working on a new solution to this one (we can only suggest manual backups as of the moment) because Google decided to discontinue the API we originally used for the cloud backup.
Thanks,
Dan
Any suggestions to get the backup feature to authenticate with Google Drive and/or Dropbox on my Pixel 6 Pro. Once I sign in to either, it times out and won't complete the action. "This site can't be reached
www.cloudrailauth.com's server IP address could not be found.
Try:
Checking the connection
ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED"
(p.s. Migration has been completed)
Hi @Timothy,
I responded on your ticket.
Thanks,
Dan
I just logged into Backcountry app for the first time in 4-5 months. Just went through the migration process as directed here and everything went smoothly.
Problem is all of my waypoints and tracks are gone instead there is a "mine ruins" waypoint I am not familiar with.
How do I retrieve my waypoints?
needed to copy all files from disk (SD card) to internal storage. Then migration worked without moving / copying any file. Had to select my maps and mapstyle manually in place. Now it works.
the migration did not copy any files at all, even not when selecting "replace files"
"My Files" the app will not see it. See the guide above about Browsing BCN App Folder
